I had the distinguished pleasure of meeting Jo on a surfing experience back in early 2025.

My opinion of her and the valuable work she is doing in this space with Live Well With Vision Loss has grown exponentially since.

She is more than an advocate. She has shown herself to be a warrior for social change and a tireless force of nature for inclusion and independence within the blind and low vision community.

Her referenced achievements are telling, and she deserves the plaudits she is known to shy away from.

Joanne Cabot is a passionate advocate and community leader whose work continues to inspire those navigating vision loss.

We first connected with Jo through a collaborative marketing initiative we ran with Vision Australia, and have since had the opportunity to engage with her at industry events and through our Australian Disability Network Webinar where Braille Tactile Signs Aust. and guests focused on the topic of the Future of Braille. Joanne’s lived experience brings a powerful perspective to the importance of pragmatic accessible design. Her appreciation for well-crafted Braille Tactile Signs, and the role they play in supporting independence and confidence, reflects exactly why this work matters.

Jo’s effervescent energy and dedication to empowering others, and building inclusive communities is evident in everything she does, and we’re privileged to collaborate with her and be part of that journey, and have genuinely enjoyed getting to know Jo not only professionally, but personally as well.

@clareandmabel

I’ve been using Joanne’s products from Live Well With Vision Loss for some time now, and they’ve genuinely changed how I move through the world. One shirt in particular — the ‘I am BLIND’ shirt with the big eye — has become one of my most-worn items. I wear it to events, through airports, and in everyday situations where I’d otherwise have to explain my disability before anyone thinks to help. The quality is excellent — these aren’t novelty items done on the cheap, they’re well-made products I’m proud to wear. But more importantly, they solve a real accessibility problem.

If you don’t use a cane or a guide dog, people have no way of knowing you’re vision impaired, which means you miss out on the small moments of assistance that make a huge difference. Joanne’s shirts, badges, and accessories close that gap instantly. They’re practical, they’re dignified, and they work. I recommend Live Well With Vision Loss to anyone in the vision impairment community who wants to make their day-to-day life easier without having to announce their disability in every interaction.

As a blind woman, I was encouraged by Jo from @livewellwithvisionloss to give indoor skydiving at iFLY a go — and I’m so glad I did.

From the moment I arrived, I felt supported, safe, and genuinely included. The team explained everything clearly, adapted where needed, and focused on what I could do, not what I couldn’t.

The experience itself was pure joy — exhilarating, freeing, and completely confidence-boosting.

Guide dog in front. Advocacy behind. Follow to learn something new.

Fashion meets functionality! I love my charcoal “I Am Blind” hoodie. The fabric is soft but substantial, and the fit is flattering without being oversized or sloppy. It pairs perfectly with leggings and the inside is soft and warm enough for snowy winter weather.

What I appreciate most is the visibility it provides. The message is clear on both the front and the back, which makes it practical in public spaces, but the design is simple and stylish. It communicates vision impairment in a straightforward way without feeling loud or performative.

Supporting a blind creator makes it even better!

I’m the creator behind @forwardwithfozzy, where I share my lived experience with vision impairment and life alongside my guide dog. Through everyday moments, training insights, and real-world navigation, I aim to highlight accessibility, independence, and the realities of living with disability. My content celebrates inclusive spaces, adaptive skills, and the powerful partnership between handler and guide dog. By sharing authentic experiences — both the challenges and the wins — I hope to build understanding, encourage empathy, and connect with others across the disability and dog-loving communities. For me, visibility matters, and every step forward counts.

Even though I live outside Australia, Live Well With Vision Loss has been an incredible source of encouragement and practical support for me. Joanne’s positive, joyful approach and genuine care make this platform truly special. Through her guidance, I’ve gained confidence, useful daily-life strategies, and a strong sense of belonging. I’m truly grateful for the inspiration and support this community provides.
